(Oct 2): Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the national news agency, Bernama, was being "mischievous" when it posted a report stating that he had offered RM3.5 million to an accused person to plead guilty to murdering deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais.

In a Facebook post today, Najib said Bernama had also used a sensational tabloid-style headline for the report and those who are lazy to read the entire article would believe the headline.

"Those who are not easily trapped by just reading headlines will surely find something amiss after reading the full article.

"There are seven accused in the murder. Only one of those accused suddenly claimed I offered him RM3.5 million through an unnamed Prisons Department officer to admit guilt in the Morais murder," he said.

Najib added that the accused, S Ravi Chandaran, had previously claimed to have been offered money by Morais' younger brother Richard, as well as another accused, military pathologist Dr R Kunaseegaranto, plead guilty to the murder.

"The accused's attempt to implicate me is clearly ludicrous," he stressed.

Earlier today, Bernama had reported that Ravi Chandaran told the Kuala Lumpur High Court of the alleged offer from Najib made via an unnamed prison officer.

The accused said this while being cross-examined by Kunaseegaran's lawyer N Sivananthan.

Najib added that it was not the first time that he was linked to the Morais murder as Sarawak Report had alleged that the Morais was preparing draft charges against him before he was killed.

He stressed that MACC chief Shukri Abdull had already denied that the Morais case had any connection with the RM2.6 billion (in his account), SRC International or 1MDB.
