KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has safely returned from his visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, greeted by low temperatures amid the ongoing cold spell in Malaysia.

"The weather today is very cold today, like in Jeddah! Alhamdulillah, I have safely arrived in the homeland," he tweeted earlier today.

Najib was in Jeddah since Jan 8, following the invitation by Saudi King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

In a post on his blog, the prime minister said the bilateral meeting saw the discussion of various topics including economic collaboration, security and the setting up of the King Salman International Centre of Peace in Putrajaya.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the Klang Valley experienced the coldest weather in months as temperature dipped to 22 degrees Celsius.

Based on the World Bank's data, temperature in Malaysia tends to be lower at the start and towards the end of the year, with January temperature averaging 24.9 degrees Celsius between 1901 and 2015.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also issued a bad weather warning yesterday for Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and parts of Sarawak, while a thunderstorm warning was issued for Perlis and Kedah.
