(Oct 9): Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has blamed the PH Government for causing a decline in tourists from China and also Musang King durian sellers losing money.

In a Facebook post today, he said media reports stated that the number of tourists from China has declined by 35 percent recently - the first time in history that this has occurred.

"Before this, the number of tourists from China grew every year. China is the largest source of tourists for Malaysia," he said.

Najib said the biggest political game against him before the 14th General Election was the issue of Malaysia's relationship with China with Chinese investments.

"This game and criticism continued after GE14. And this will have a big negative impact on our economy," he said.

Najib added that the number of China tourists has declined so much that durian traders selling Musang King are reportedly losing money.

"Not durians and tourists only, but palm oil exports have fallen badly after GE14. Good diplomatic relationships are very important," he said.

The tourism sector is among the largest in Malaysia and made up 13.7 percent (RM168 billion) of the entire Malaysian economy in 2016.

About 1.73 million jobs in Malaysia are derived directly or indirectly from this industry.

"I hope the severe fall in number of tourists from China can be corrected as soon as possible as millions of people depend on this sector for their income," he said.
