KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 15): Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) announced today the soft opening of Penang Sentral as an integrated transportation hub on Nov 22.

MRCB said in a statement today that the 9.06ha (22.65 acre) Penang Sentral in Butterworth is an integrated transportation hub connecting KTM's electric and Komuter train services, besides bus, taxi and ferry services.

"The activation of this transportation hub, which has an emphasis on safety, security and convenience for all users, will enhance comfort and efficiency for commuters and tourists alike. It will also offer a centralised ticketing system, and a multitude of retail and food and beverage outlets, providing business opportunities for SME players, as well as [for] renowned local and international brands.

"Equipped with many other amenities for the public, including a surau, a medical room, baby changing rooms, lockers and more, Penang Sentral is designed to ease commuting through its improved access and fully-integrated facilities, including access for the disabled," MRCB said.

MRCB group managing director Mohd Imran Mohamad Salim said in the statement that the soft opening of Penang Sentral marks another milestone in the nation’s development of transportation infrastructure.

"In line with our vision of setting the standard, we are confident that this transportation hub will not only contribute towards making life easier for commuters, but will also provide a significant boost to the state’s economy, acting as a catalyst for future development within its vicinity and the northern region,” Mohd Imran said.
