PETALING JAYA (Dec 7): The Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers (MIPFM) has announced the resignation of its president Sarkunan Subramaniam and declared that it is against a suggestion to set up a separate board to register property, facility and strata managers.

This follows MIPFM’s  extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held last Saturday (Dec 1)  in which the following resolutions were passed: “We, the members of MIPFM hereby resolve that the MIPFM fully supports the Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents and Property Managers Malaysia (BOVAEP) as the governing authorised body for property managers and are opposed to the setting up of a separate board to register property, facility and strata managers apart from BOVAEP”.

In a press release signed off by MIPFM secretary-general Nageswaran Muniandy today, the organisation also announced that Faizal Fuad has taken over as acting president with effect from Dec 1 following the resignation of Sarkunan.

Faizal Fuad was deputy president for the current 2018/2019 term.

To recap, Sarkunan, had made a statement  after the opening of the MIPFM Conference 2018 in October, saying that  MIPFM will be speaking with the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) about the possibility of setting up a separate board to register property, facility and strata managers to allow the three professions to “chart their own course”.

In response, KPKT deputy minister Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah said the ministry does not wish to reinvent the wheel, but is open for discussions on the matter.
