BANGKOK: International hotel owner, operator and investor Minor Hotel Group Ltd (MHG) announced a collaboration plan with Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH), an investment arm by Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

MHG is based in Bangkok, Thailand, and has an investment portfolio of over 120 hotels and resorts in 22 countries across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, South America, Africa and the Indian Ocean.

“DRH’s strategic intent is to further strengthen Malaysia’s hospitality value positioning ... that will appeal to sophisticated global tourists,” said DRH group managing director Tunku Datuk Ahmad Burhanuddin in a press statement on Tuesday.

According to the collaboration agreement, both parties will identify a suitable location to co-develop a luxury resort and residences under the Anantara brand.

“We are delighted to make our first hotel investment in Malaysia through our partnership with Destination Resorts and Hotels. We believe there is a vast potential for growth in the tourism sector in this beautiful country,” said Minor International chairman and chief executive officer William Heinecke.

MHG and DRH intend to make further announcements on additional information on the development later this year.
