KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 18): A Malaysia Airlines Bhd flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur was diverted to Alice Springs today after experiencing a technical fault on one of its engines.

"Safety was not at any time compromised and the commanding captain decided to divert the flight for technical assistance," the national carrier said of the MH122 flight in a statement today.

The Airbus A330-300 aircraft had made the emergency landing at Alice Springs Airport at 5.48pm.

According to Malaysia Airlines, all affected passengers have been given hotel accommodation, meals and transportation.

Passengers will be transferred from Alice Springs to Kuala Lumpur on flight MH148, which is scheduled to depart from Alice Springs at 5.45pm tomorrow and arrive at 9.50pm in Kuala Lumpur on the same day.

"We [are] also working hard to reallocate passengers with onward connections on to the next available flights to their destination," the airline added, stressing that safety is its top priority.
