KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): A Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aircraft on a scheduled flight (MH88) from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo late last night, was delayed for almost two hours following a mishap involving a catering food truck on the taxiway at the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.

Flight MH88 to Narita, which was scheduled to leave at 11.35pm on Tuesday, departed at 1.10am today.

It is believed that the mishap involving the food truck had prevented the plane from taking off.

At press time, officials from MAS and the in-flight catering firm were tight-lipped on the mishap and were unable to give official confirmation on what took place.

MAS head of strategic communications Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah confirmed that the flight was delayed and that it needed time to clear up the food truck.

When contacted, Brahim's Airline Catering Sdn Bhd CEO Ainul Hasnizam Abu Hassan told The Edge Financial Daily that the flight was delayed after the plane could not take off.

"Nothing happened to the plane, there was no damage," he confirmed. However, he declined to reveal what caused the mishap or if the plane had reversed into the food truck by accident on the taxiway before taking off.

The catering firm is, however, carrying out its own internal investigation into the incident and is expected to reveal its findings in due time.

It is not known if all the passengers on the flight continued their journey.

Brahim's Airline Catering is 70% owned by Bursa Malaysia-listed Brahim's Holdings Bhd, while MAS owns the remaining 30%.
