KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 28): Mesiniaga Bhd has bagged a four-month contract worth RM27.4 million from Xiddig Cellular Communications Sdn Bhd for works related to the latter's Malaysia International Internet Gateway (EM-IIG) project.

According to the group's stock exchange filing today, the project entails the delivery of lab equipment and site preparation for the EM-IIG Project's service testing and verification.

The group said the project will positively affect its earnings per share for its financial year ending Dec 31, 2018.

Bernama reported previously that the EM-IIG project costs RM5.45 billion, and involves the installation of undersea fiber-optic cable linking Hong Kong's international Internet hub to Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, with the aim of providing cheaper and faster internet access in Malaysia

The project, which will use 150 terabyte fiber-optic cables, and spans 110,000 km, is being implemented in phases, with the first phase covering a distance of 33,000km through major cities in Malaysia before being expanded to rural and interior areas.

Mesiniaga shares were not traded today. It last settled at RM1.13 on Dec 26, giving it a market capitalisation of RM68.25 million.
