KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 2): Media Prima Bhd announced today Mustapha Kamil Mohd Janor's appointment as executive director, news and editorial, and he will be responsible for the overall operations of the group's news and editorial functions.

In a statement today, Media Prima also announced that Mustapha Kamil had been appointed to the boards of Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd and The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP), effective today.

"He will provide the strategic direction and oversight of Media Prima Television Networks and NSTP news operations, and will focus on optimising the group's news resources in line with Media Prima's business transformation efforts. He reports to the group managing director of Media Prima.

"Mustapha Kamil, 57, brings with him 26 years of experience in journalism. He began his career as a cadet reporter at NSTP in 1989 and held various positions in the company including NSTP foreign correspondent in New York, managing editor of Business Times, and group editor of New Straits Times until his resignation in May 2016," Media Prima said.

Media Prima group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid said in the statement Mustapha Kamil is a highly-respected figure within the journalism fraternity.

Kamal said Mustapha Kamil's experience and knowledge of the group will be valuable as the group continues to evolve.

Kamal said: "The past three years saw Media Prima aggressively establish the group's digital presence by bringing our award-winning news content online via news portals and video streaming. We are confident that Mustapha Kamil will be able to lead news and editorial operations to further solidify our position as the leading digital news provider in Malaysia."
