KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 30): Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) said PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk reported a higher net profit at Rp1.4 trillion in the nine months ended Sept 30, 2017 from RM1.3 trillion a year earlier as interest, fee and Islamic-based income rose.

In a statement today, Maybank said Maybank Indonesia's net interest and fee-based income climbed 4.3% and 7.9% respectively. Maybank said Maybank Indonesia's Islamic banking net profit increased 63.3%.

Maybank group president and CEO Datuk Abdul Farid Alias said in the statement: “The consistency in performance in the first nine months this year clearly reflects the bank’s resilience amidst the challenging economic environment. We have strengthened our financial position and product offerings as well as our risk management capabilities to enable us to leverage on growth areas, in particular, opportunities arising from the government’s various economic development projects."

"We are confident that the bank will remain on steady growth trajectory for the final quarter of 2017, and create further value for all of our stakeholders,” said Abdul Farid, who is also Maybank Indonesia president commissioner.
