KUALA LUMPUR (May 31): Malaysia's new daily Covid-19 cases fell to 6,824, from 6,999 yesterday, bringing total number of cases to 572,357.

Today is the second consecutive day the nation reported a declining trend in new infections after recording the highest number of cases on Saturday (May 29).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor remained the state with the most number of cases with 2,111, followed by Kelantan (695) and Sarawak (654).

Elsewhere, Johor reported 489 new Covid-19 cases, Kedah (464), Kuala Lumpur (387), Melaka (352), Penang (328), Perak (255), Negeri Sembilan (253), Pahang (219), Terengganu (204), Sabah (207), Labuan (166), Putrajaya (28), and Perlis (12).

Meanwhile, Malaysia reported 67 new Covid-19 deaths today. Fifteen fatalities were reported in Selangor, 12 in Johor, eight in Sarawak, six in Kedah, five each in Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan, four in Pahang, three each in Penang, Labuan and Melaka, two in Sabah and one in Kuala Lumpur.

The number of recoveries in the 24 hours as of noon was 5,251, bringing total discharged cases in the country to 490,038, representing a recovery rate of 85.62%.

Active cases stood at 79,623. A total of 851 cases were being treated in intensive care units, with 422 patients on ventilators.

The Ministry of Health identified 25 new Covid-19 clusters, including 14 from workplaces and nine from the community. There was also one higher education institution linked cluster and a high risk cluster.

To date, the ministry has identified 2,188 clusters of which 1,533 have been declared ended, leaving 655 active clusters.
