KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Malaysia’s daily number of administered Covid-19 vaccine doses rose to 283,002 yesterday (Sept 17) from 202,298 the day before.

Of the total doses administered yesterday, 75,986 individuals received their first shot, while the remaining 162,016 received their second jab, according to the latest updates on Twitter today by the country’s Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

As of yesterday, a cumulative 39.92 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine had been administered.

A total of 21.86 million people or 66.9% of the nation’s population had gotten at least their first shot as of yesterday, while 18.14 million or 55.5% were fully inoculated.

These figures also translated into 92.9% of the country’s entire adult population having received at least their first jab and 77.5% fully vaccinated.

For the Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, about 7.07 million individuals or 83.9% of its total population had gotten at least their first dose as of yesterday, while 6.51 million or 77.3% were fully inoculated.

Sabah recorded the highest number of first shots administered yesterday at 36,105, followed by Johor (8,985), Perak (7,975) and Pulau Pinang (5,828).

As for second jabs, Perak led with 24,534 doses administered, followed by Johor (23,998), Sabah (18,608), Kuala Lumpur (17,966) and Kedah (16,854).

Malaysia reported 17,577 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, down from 18,815 the day before. This brought total Covid-19 infections in the nation to 2.06 million.

Meanwhile, 388 coronavirus-related fatalities were reported, bringing the country’s overall death toll to 22,743.
