KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): Malaysia has reached 22.5% installed electricity capacity from renewable energy (RE), helped by the country's net energy metering, large scale solar, green sukuk financing and feed-in tariff (FiT) policies.

The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry's Deputy Secretary General Datin Badriyah Abd Malek said the nation is on track to achieve the 2025 Association of Southeast Asian Nations' target of 23% RE of total primary energy supply.

"Under the Grid-of-the-Future initiatives, the ministry together with TNB (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) have set the foundation for a more resilient and efficient grid besides enabling the integration of renewable energy under the Government Green Agenda," Badriyah said in a statement issued by Tenaga today.

Tenaga's statement includes excerpts of Badriyah's speech yesterday at the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and Western Pacific (AESIEAP) CEO Conference in Penang.
