KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 5): Malaysia exports expanded 6.7% year-on-year to RM83 billion in September 2018, driven mainly by expansion in exports of electrical and electronic besides petroleum-based products, according to the Statistics Department data released today.

In a statement, the department said Malaysia's export growth was contributed by expansion in exports to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and South Korea.

"Exports expanded 6.7%, while imports registered a decrease of 2.7% (at RM67.8 billion) to record the highest trade surplus at RM15.3 billion since October 2008," the department said.

According to the department, Malaysia registered lower imports from India, South Korea, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, and European Union countries.

It said Malaysia had imported less intermediate, capital and consumption goods.
