KUALA LUMPUR (July 5): Malaysia recorded 6,387 new Covid-19 cases today, an increase from yesterday’s 6,045, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

This is the seventh consecutive day that the nation has recorded more than 6,000 new daily cases. 

Selangor, the most populous state, continued to report the highest number of new infections at 2,610, followed by Kuala Lumpur (819) and Negeri Sembilan (523).

Selangor has been registering over 2,000 new daily infections for the whole of last week.

Other states with three-digit new cases are Sarawak (424), Johor (324), Pahang (312), Kedah (273), Sabah (263), Perak (249), Melaka (206), Penang (157) and Kelantan (114).

Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 infections now stand at 785,039, said Dr Noor Hisham.

A total of 77 deaths were registered today, bringing total deaths related to the virus to 5,574.

Thirty fatalities were recorded in Selangor, 10 each in Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan, eight in Melaka, seven in Johor, four each in Kedah and Pahang, three in Kelantan and one in Labuan. 

Active cases showed an upward trend for the 11th consecutive day at 69,447. 

New recoveries totalled 4,532, taking the total number of patients discharged to date to 710,018.

Compared to the total cases, this gives a recovery rate of 90.4%.

A total of 923 patients are in intensive care units, with 433 needing ventilators to breathe. 

Separately, the Ministry of Health has identified 13 new clusters today — 11 of them are workplace clusters with the remaining from communities. 

The ministry has detected 2,931 clusters to date, 2,076 of which have been declared ended. That leaves 855 active clusters.
