KUALA LUMPUR (June 24): Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 infections climbed to 5,841 today, pushing the number of active cases to 61,162 after declining for 17 consecutive days.
The latest infections were discovered from the testing of 74,542 individuals nationwide.
The country also reported another 84 deaths, bringing total fatalities linked to the coronavirus here to 4,271, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.
Of the latest fatalities, 32 were confirmed in Selangor, 10 each in Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan, eight in Kelantan, seven in Johor, six in Kedah, three in Labuan, two each in Melaka, Perak and Pahang, and one each in Sabah and Terengganu.
Among new infections, 5,833 were local transmissions, while the remaining eight were imported.
Selangor topped again with the most number of Covid-19 infections at 2,072, followed by Negeri Sembilan (781), Sarawak (581) and Kuala Lumpur (552).
Meanwhile, a total of 5,411 Covid-19 patients have recovered from the disease today. Cumulative recoveries now stand at 650,964, versus total confirmed infections of 716,847.
As of today noon, 869 patients are being treated in intensive care units, 438 of whom need ventilators.
30 new infection clusters found
The ministry also reported the discovery of 30 more infection clusters today. The last time the country announced 30 clusters – which is the most number of clusters found in a single day – was on June 6.
The new clusters comprised 20 workplace clusters, nine community clusters and one linked to a high-risk group. The clusters were identified in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Sarawak, Johor, Kedah, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan.
To date, 2,720 clusters have been reported in the country, while 1,853 have been declared ended.
