KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 19): Malaysia has received foreign direct investment (FDI) worth RM26.5 billion between January and June 2018, according to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

China was the biggest contributor by country with under a fourth of the value (RM6.6 billion) coming from the world's second largest economy, deputy minister Ong Kian Ming told the Dewan Rakyat today.

The top four FDI into Malaysia were dominated by Asian countries, with China followed by South Korea (RM2.4 billion), Japan (RM1.6 billion) and Singapore (RM800 million).

Three industries were the main recipients of the FDI, namely manufacturing (RM15.2 billion), services (RM6 billion) and primary industries (RM5.3 billion), the minister added.

Within the manufacturing industry, rubber products were the main recipients with RM3.1 billion, metal products (RM2.9 billion) and petroleum and petrochemical (RM309 million).

Ong was answering a question by Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (BN-Padang Terap) on FDI successfully brought in for 2018, and the amount of FDI from China.
