KUALA LUMPUR (April 11): Malaysia's Prime Minister's Office said today the Government has declared the 14th general election's (GE14) polling day on May 9, 2018 (Wednesday) as an additional public holiday to enable Malaysians to fulfill their obligation as voters.

"Following the Election Commission's announcement that polling day for GE14 is on May 9, 2018, the Government has fixed the day as an additional public holiday nationwide. This is to enable Malaysians to fulfill their responsibility as voters," the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement today.

Yesterday, the Election Commission announced that GE14's polling date will be on May 9, 2018, while the nomination date is on April 28 (Saturday).

At a press conference, Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the election writ would be issued today (April 11), while early voting will be held on May 5 (Saturday).
