KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 10): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (Malaysia Airports) and Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of integrated telecommunications, ICT and smart services for the KLIA Aeropolis project.

The MoU was signed by their respective wholly-owned subsidiaries, Malaysia Airport (Sepang) Sdn Bhd and VADS Lyfe Sdn Bhd.

According to joint statement today, the MoU is intended for both parties to transform KLIA Aeropolis into a world-class airport city and a tourist destination in itself.

“The success of KLIA Aeropolis will strengthen Malaysia Airports’ position as a key economic enabler for the country by contributing significantly to national GDP and job creation,” the statement said.

TM and Malaysia Airports will be working closely in strengthening the existing telecommunication and ICT infrastructure at KLIA Aeropolis. At the same time, both parties will explore ways to incorporate smart services through the provisioning of Internet of Things (IoT) enabled smart services.

TM chief executive officer Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said the collaboration will also enable them to promote smart city living through the provisioning of smart solutions such as Smart Safety & Security, Smart Mobility, Smart Building Management as well as Tenant and Citizen Services.

Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the company wants to ensure that KLIA Aeropolis is a sustainable development.

“This partnership with VADS Lyfe will allow us to offer the population of our airport city efficiency and optimisation, while at the same time curbing energy depletion.” Badlisham said

Apart from the development of smart services, both parties will explore jointly developing marketing programmes and innovative ICT enablers, leveraging on TM’s expertise towards realising the vision of KLIA Aeropolis development.

Malaysia Airports shares closed up one sen or 0.17% higher at RM6.04, with a market capitalisation of RM10.02 billion.
