KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 13): Malaysia Airlines Berhad announced today it will form a codeshare arrangement with Emirates for Kuala Lumpur-Dubai flights from Feb 15 this year.

In a press release today, Malaysia Airlines' chief executive officer Christoph Mueller said the agreement would increase the flights offered by Malaysia Airlines from one to four daily, with all flights to be operated on Emirates' aircraft.

"Malaysia Airlines will be suspending its Kuala Lumpur-Dubai route by 15 February and will re-accomodate passengers on its codeshare flights with Emirates," Mueller said.

He said the codeshare constituted a part of the partnership between Malaysia Airlines and Emirates. Both airlines entered into the partnership in early December 2015.

Under the codeshare, Mueller said today that the Kuala Lumpur-Dubai flight would be operated three times daily, using the Boeing 777; and once a day on the Airbus 380.

“The partnership allows our guests to travel seamlessly to major cities around the world, whilst enjoying increased loyalty reward through our loyalty programmes.

“We will be able to offer Kuala Lumpur as a hub to connect to South East Asia and Dubai for connections to Europe, Middle East and North and South Africa. This arrangement will offer guests a wider network of destinations at greater convenience,” he said.

According to Mueller, the codeshare would enable customers to experience seamless and convenient connections to Emirates’ more-than-90 global destinations.

He said these include key European cities such as Paris and Rome, as well as Canada and Latin America.
