In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, MAHB said the international traffic rose 12.6% y-o-y to 4.9 million passengers, while domestic traffic increased 2.4% to 5.7 million passengers compared to last year.

Overall aircraft movements slipped 0.3% with international movements registering an increase of 8.9%, while domestic movements decreased by 5.6%.

Nevertheless, MAHB said on a last-12-month basis, the total network of airports registered 8.1% growth with 126.7 million passengers.

MAHB noted that airports in Malaysia registered a 7% y-o-y increase to 7.8 million passengers in October this year.

International sector recorded 4 million passengers with a 13.1% increase, while domestic sector grew by 1.3% to 3.8 million passengers, said MAHB.

International traffic for ASEAN destinations rose by 10.9% whereas non-ASEAN traffic posted a 15.3% growth.

Additionally, overall aircraft movements rose 1.2%; international aircraft movements grew by 12.8% y-o-y, but domestic aircraft movements declined by 5.4% y-o-y.

Meanwhile, overall average load factor in October was 74.1%, a surge of 2.3 percentage points y-o-y.

For Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), passenger movements grew 8.9% y-o-y with 4.8 million passenger movements. "Passenger traffic for KLIA Main Terminal reduced by 0.6% while traffic for klia2 increased by 18.3%," said MAHB.

Passenger movements at MASB airports (airports apart from KLIA handled by Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd) increased by 4.2% y-o-y with 3.1 million passenger movements in October, with international passenger movements rising by 20.1%, recording 600,000 passengers.

Meanwhile, ASEAN traffic grew by 9.7% with 300,000 passengers while non-ASEAN traffic increased by 38.8% with 200,000 passengers, said MAHB, adding that domestic traffic rose by 1.1% to 2.5 million passengers in October.

Moreover, Istanbul SGIA passenger traffic posted a 6.6% y-o-y growth in October with 2.8 million passengers; international passengers increased by 10.3% to 900,000 passengers, while domestic sector improved by 4.9% to 1.9 million passengers, said MAHB.

"Total aircraft movements decreased by 6.1%, with both international and domestic aircraft movements recording 5.5% and 6.4% decline respectively," said MAHB.

On October's performance, passenger traffic movements picked up momentum again after the moderation in September.

Noting that the double-digit 13.1% international growth contributed significantly to the momentum, MAHB said the growth was mainly contributed by the North East Asia, South Asia and South East Asia sectors.

"All the four regional international airports experienced double-digit growth for international traffic. Domestic passenger growth was essentially contributed by AirAsia," said MAHB, adding that Istanbul SGIA's double-digit international growth momentum continued indicating continued recovery of traffic

At closing today, MAHB shares were down five sen or 0.59% to RM8.35, with 2.54 million shares traded for a market capitalisation of RM13.85 billion.
