KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 7): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has questioned former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim over the central bank's RM2 billion land acquisition from the Finance Ministry.

The Star, quoting an MACC source, reported today that other BNM officials were also questioned about the acquisition of the 55.79-acre (about 22ha) land known as Lot 41. It was reported that BNM had bought the land from the Finance Ministry in January.

"We have recorded his statement and also from many other officers of BNM. What the MACC covers is mainly about the land sale. On the issue of whether the sale was conducted in a proper manner, that depends on the central bank's own probe.

"If BNM wants to investigate its own officers, that is its own internal investigation. We will not interfere," the source said.

At the time of writing this theedgemarkets.com report, BNM and the MACC had not issued statements in response to The Star's report.
