KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 23): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is purportedly investigating former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz and former finance minister II Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop over their purported links to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds.

Citing sources, Mingguan Malaysia reported that the commission is investigating alleged misconduct as Nor Mohamed was aware of all investments involving 1MDB funds.

MACC is investigating the two under the MACC Act 2009 and the Money Laundering Act 2001.

Meanwhile, the commission is also investigating Zeti's husband Datuk Dr Tawfiq Ayman over claims that he had received said funds.

The investigations concern the flow of money into Tawfiq's account in Singapore after 1MDB raised RM5 billion via a bond issuance in 2009.

The commission is proposing charges under Section(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Prevention of Financing of Terrorism and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act 2001, it reported.

According to Mingguan Malaysia, the involvement of the trio were revealed after Singapore's Commercial Affairs Department returned RM3.62 million belonging to former SRC International Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil to Malaysia's Asset Recovery Trust Account.
