KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has confirmed that it will charge former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah tomorrow over the misuse of government funds.

In a statement today, the anti-graft body said it has obtained approval from the Attorney-General's Chambers to proceed with the case and that the duo will be at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow at 7.30am to be jointly charged for "several cases of breach of trust" involving government funds.

"They were both summoned to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today at 2pm to complete the final investigative process and the said charges," the statement read.

The two were reportedly questioned on dealings between 1MDB and Abu Dhabi's sovereign fund, International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC).

Separately, MACC said it has also obtained approval to bring charges against the former director-general of the research division in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Hasanah Ab Hamid.

The charges against Hasanah also involve a breach of trust issue involving government funds.

Hasanah will be charged at the same court tomorrow.

The statement, however, did not detail the exact counts to be faced by them, nor the sum of the monies involved.

Meanwhile, Najib left the MACC headquarters at 5.02pm today after spending three hours to have his statement taken by the anti-graft agency.

At press time, Mohd Irwan still remains in the premises since his arrival at at 3.26pm. According to media reports, he will be detained overnight and brought to court tomorrow.
