KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) said it is encouraged by Budget 2018’s focus on strengthening government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-linked investment companies (GLICs), from the perspective of building human capital.

Its chief executive Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin pointed to initiatives announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today in the national Budget such as introducing flexible benefits and working arrangements, as well as increasing investment in training, particularly for digital skills.

"Additional initiatives including providing childcare centres and increasing maternity leave to 90 days will certainly help to enhance productivity and increase quality of life for citizens working for GLCs and GLICs," he said in a statement today.

Lodin also noted that the reduction in individual tax rates will improve the domestic economy by increasing disposable income and allowing individuals to have more flexibility in terms of managing rising living costs.

"These tangible measures are certainly timely to help Malaysians better manage the rising cost of living," he said.

On the establishment of a Housing Blueprint to build over 40,000 affordable units by 2030 for members of the armed forces, Lodin said this measure to build more affordable housing will enhance prospects for the construction sector, which is an area which LTAT and its group of companies participate in.
