KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 24): Low cost carrier AirAsia Bhd’s co-founder and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has commended Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after tjhe latter’s speech at at the opening session of the World Economic Forum in Davos yesterday.

In a text message on his twitter account, Fernandes said many leaders could learn a lot from Modi.

“Making it easy for business and open to FDI and opening up India. Very impressed,” said Fernandes.

Bloomberg reported Modi as saying that India is working toward a five trillion dollar economy by 2025.

“India is removing the red tape and laying out the red carpet,” said Modi, the first Indian prime minister in two decades to attend the high-level forum.

Meanwhile, it an interview with Bloomberg in Davos, Fernandes discussed the impact of oil at US$60 on AirAsia, and said the situation was "very manageable" at the moment.

Fernandes was quoted as saying that he was "not unduly concerned" about oil prices right now.
