KUALA LUMPUR (March 23): Lay Hong Bhd is investing in a new pasteurised liquid eggs processing facility in Iskandar Halal Park in Pasir Gudang, Johor, to cater to demand from the southern region and Singapore, and address logistical costs.

Lay Hong will be investing some RM16.59 million to set up the facility. The investment includes the RM5.2 million it has spent to buy a semi-detached factory in the halal park, to be converted into the said facility.

The investment will be made via its wholly-owned unit Lay Hong Liquid Egg Sdn Bhd (LHLE), which bought the factory from the developer Tentu Teguh Sdn Bhd on Feb 8. LHLE will be financing it via a combination of internal funds and bank borrowings.

Lay Hong said the move is in line with its focus on enhancing the sales of downstream products.

The project is expected to be completed in six to seven months, upon delivery of certificates of fitness from Tentu Teguh.

Lay Hong shares closed one sen or 1.05% higher at 96 sen, for a market capitalisation of RM595.02 million.
