KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): klia2 has handled 88 million passenger movements at the terminal, comprising 30 million domestic and 58 million international passenger movements, since its opening on May 2, 2013, says Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

The terminal, said MAHB in a statement today, has the capacity to handle 45 million passengers per annum (mppa) and has been supporting the traffic growth of low cost carriers steadily over the last three years.

“After its first year of operation in April 2015, klia2 recorded a total of 24 million passenger traffic movements. This growth escalated higher in 2016, which registered a 15% increase to its total number of passenger movements at 27.6 million from the previous year,” MAHB said.

As for the first quarter of 2017, the terminal continued to post strong passenger traffic numbers by handling 7.1 million passengers, made up of 4.8 million international passengers and 2.3 million domestic ones.

In commemorating the third year of klia2 operations today, a simple ceremony was held at the terminal, said MAHB, with MA Sepang Sdn Bhd's acting general manager Arif Jaafar distributing the limited edition klia2 medallion to three selected passengers.

In the past three years, klia2 had undergone a few improvement initiatives, including the installation of 25 more walkalators, raising the total to 42, and the implementation of a 24-hour buggy service for greater passenger convenience.

MAHB shares closed up 38 sen or 5% at RM7.98 today, for a market capitalisation of RM13.24 billion.
