KUALA LUMPUR (April 2): The FBM KLCI began the first trading day of the second quarter of 2018 with modest gains, in line with its regional peers.

At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI gained 0.28 points to 1,863.74.

The early gainers included Nestle (M) Bhd, Far East Holdings Bhd, Hong Leong Industries Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd, Caely Holdings Bhd, George Kent (M) Bhd and Eversendai Corp Bhd.

Asian stocks began the new quarter on Monday with mild gains following a strong performance by global equities last week, while the dollar held steady awaiting key economic indicators, according to Reuters.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.3 percent, it said.

JF Apex Securities Research in a market preview said US and European markets were closed on Friday for Good Friday holiday.

“On the local bourse, the benchmark FBM KLCI surged 7.11 points to 1863.46 points.

“Following the positive momentum last week, the FBM KLCI is expected to be buoyed and attempt to retest its resistance of 1880 points,” it said.
