KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 17): The FBM KLCI opened lower as investors continued selling Malaysia blue-chip stocks ahead of the Deepavali holiday tomorrow (Oct 18).

Today, the KLCI fell 0.72 point at 9am to 1,753.65 points. At 9:07am, the index was still in negative territory at 1,753.99 points.

Across Bursa Malaysia, 222.88 million shares worth RM77.01 million were traded. There were 157 gainers and 98 decliners.

CIMB Investment Bank Bhd wrote in a note today : "We expect today to be about the same as yesterday with the index-linked counters remaining sluggish whereas the lower-liner stocks, especially the Bursa Malaysia technology-linked stocks, are expected to continue to hog the limelight."

"The overall market sentiment might be muted ahead of the Deepavali holiday on Wednesday," CIMB said.
