KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): The FBM KLCI further extended its loss this afternoon amid heavy trading volume as news emerged that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had tendered his resignation.

The Prime Minister’s Office in a brief statement said Dr Mahathir had tendered his resignation and that the letter had been delivered to the Agong at 1pm today.

At 2.35pm, the FBM KLCI was down 39.51 points to 1,491.69.

Losers thumped gainers by 744 to 60, while 450 counters traded unchanged.

The top losers included Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, Heineken Malaysia Bhd, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, Public Bank Bhd, PPB Group Bhd, Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd, Ajinomoto (M) Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and MISC Bhd.
