KUALA LUMPUR (June 22): Kimlun Corp Bhd is expecting flat top- and bottomline growth in the financial year ending Dec 31, 2018 (FY18), amid uncertainties such as the escalating global trade war between China and the US.

Speaking to reporters after its annual general meeting here today, its chief executive officer Sim Tian Liang explained that the company is cautious about costlier fuel and steel prices as well as higher wages.

Nevertheless, he noted that the zero-rated goods and services tax (GST) will enable the company to see some savings.

"We are hopeful that the new government will take the economy to greater heights, with more transparency and open tenders," Sim said, when asked about his outlook on the construction industry.

He added that the open tender will enable more construction companies to compete equally based on merit.

Kimlun is an engineering and construction services provider specialising in infrastructure and building construction, project management, industrial building systems (IBS) and manufacture of concrete products.

For the first quarter ended March 31, 2018 (1QFY18), the construction company saw its net profit decline 17.78% to RM12.65 million from RM15.38 million a year ago. This was despite revenue rising 29.82% to RM220.93 million, from RM170.18 million in 1QFY17.

As at 1QFY18, its orderbook stood at RM1.94 billion which would keep the company busy for the next two years.

At 5pm, shares of Kimlun closed three sen or 2.16% lower at RM1.36 for a market capitalisation of RM445.67 million.
