KUALA LUMPUR (July 10): Kian Joo Can Factory Bhd and its 54.99%-owned subsidiary Box-Pak (Malaysia) Bhd have both promoted Chee Khay Leong to the position of president and chief executive officer of their respective groups effective today.

Chee, 57, had previously been chief operating officer in Kian Joo since July 2012 and an executive director of Box-Pak since July 2013, the two firms said in separate filings to the stock exchange today.

He has also been an executive director in Kian Joo since June 2012, the packaging group said.

On top of that, Chee is an executive director of Can-One Bhd, which controls 32.9% of Kian Joo. According to the latter's website, Chee is also an independent non-executive director in the Aluminium Company of Malaysia Bhd.

Prior to Chee's appointment, the CEO position in both Kian Joo and Box-Pak was vacant.

Yeoh Jin Hoe has held the position of group managing director of both firms since July 2012.

Shares in Kian Joo closed down 6 sen or 2.24% today at RM2.62, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM1.19 billion.

On the other hand, Box-Pak was untraded today. It last closed at RM1.06 with a market capitalisation of RM127.16 million.
