KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 21): Second finance minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said today that the government is looking at several measures to alleviate the burden of fuel cost on the rakyat.

“I cannot give you (details) of how it will be done yet, because we are still looking into the matter,” he said to reporters during the MIER National Economic Outlook Conference 2018-2019 today.

When asked on whether the potential fuel subsidy has been allocated for in the recent 2018 budget, Johari said the government will use the extra from the increase in crude oil prices to help the people.

“That will happen if fuel price is above RM2.50 per liter for 3 months. You remember in 2008, it was at RM2.70 per liter,” Johari added.

He also assured that the fiscal deficit target of 2.8% Malaysia expects to achieve next year, will still be intact, even with the potential fuel subsidy measures.
