KUALA LUMPUR: The Jakarta Composite Index exchange fell as much as 2% this morning before cutting some losses to be down 1.22% to 2,092.08 at noon today, after simultaneous bomb blasts at the JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton hotels in central Jakarta earlier this morning left six people dead and scores injured.
 
Most Asian markets traded higher, though some profit taking as well as cautious trading among investors limited the gains.
 
The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index added 1.28% to 18,596.20; Taiwan’s TAIEX Index gained 1.23% to 6,863.46, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.69% to 9,409.07, and South Korea’s Kospi added 0.37% to 1,437.58.
 
Meanwhile, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.12% to 3,180.03 and the Singapore Straits Times Index slipped 0.08% to 2,399.15.
 
The FBM KLCI which opened higher today slipped into the red briefly and fell as much as 5.03 points before recovering at midday to end the morning session 6.25 points higher at 1,115.13, lifted by BCHB, Tenaga, Gamida and Genting.
 
Turnover was 536.82 million shares valued at RM657.82 million. Losers led gainers by 256 to 201, while 236 counters traded unchanged.
 
Crude palm oil futures rose RM17 per tonne to RM2,080 for August delivery and RM33 per tonne to RM2,064 for September delivery. Crude oil fell 43 cents per barrel to US$61.59 as at 12.50pm today.
 
At the Bursa Malaysia, BCHB was the top gainer at midday and rose 20 sen to RM9.90; BHIC added 18 sen to RM4.60, EON Cap was up 16 sen to RM4.80 while Tenaga was up 15 sen to RM8.15.
 
Lebar Daun and Gamuda were up 11 sen each to 69 sen and RM3.08, Genting up 10 sen to RM5.70 and Toyo Ink added 8 sen to RM1.15.
 
The top loser this morning was duty-free operator DFZ that lost 32 sen to RM4.60; Cepco lost 22 sen to RM2.88, PPB Group down 20 sen to RM12.30 while Ewein fell 14 sen to 76 sen.
 
Berjaya Media and Asia File lost 12 sen each to RM1.21 and RM4.76, while LKT, LPI and Tanjong fell 10 sen each to RM2, RM11.20 and RM14.30, respectively.
 
KNM Group was the most actively traded stock with 72.15 million shares done. The counter added one sen to 84 sen.
 
Other actively traded stocks included Frontken, Jaks Resources, UEM Land, Saag, Axiata, Gamuda and Compugates.
