KUALA LUMPUR: IOI Corp Bhd, controlled by tycoon Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng, said it would pay a special dividend totalling RM722.2 million.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, IOI Corp declared a special dividend of 11.5 sen per share for the financial year ending June 30, 2018 (FY18). The dividend will be payable on March 30 to shareholders on entitlement day on March 20, with an ex-dividend date on March 16.

The market reaction, however, was relatively muted. Investors had expected the dividend bonanza post completion of its disposal of 70% stake in Loders Croklaan Group BV. The stock closed down one sen or 0.21% at RM4.78 yesterday, with 5.38 million shares done. Its market capitalisation stood at RM30.04 billion.

Last Thursday, IOI Corp announced that it had completed the stake sale in Loders and its related businesses to US-listed Bunge Ltd for RM3.79 billion cash.Earlier on Feb 23, the group had declared an interim dividend of 4.5 sen per share for FY18, payable on March 30. It also saw its net profit surge 38.2 times to RM595.9 million for its second financial quarter ended Dec 31, 2017 from RM15.6 million a year ago.
