Notable filings

The emergence of Lembaga Tabung Haji as a substantial shareholder in newly listed property firm MCT Bhd is among the notable filings for the week between April 13 and 17. The pilgrims’ fund bought 134.18 million shares or a 10.05% stake on April 1 and became the third largest shareholder. MCT’s largest shareholder is co-founder and chairman Tan Sri Goh Ming Choon, with a 42.68% stake, followed by CEO Datuk Seri Tong Seech Wi, with a 22.98% stake.

Guoline Capital Ltd, Bermuda, which is controlled by Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, sold 38.85 million shares or a 3.18% stake in TH Heavy Engineering Bhd on April 14 and ceased to be a substantial shareholder.

Property firm Perduren Bhd saw its substantial shareholder Datuk Kamaluddin Abdullah selling four million shares or a 2.96% stake on April 9. After the sale, he still holds 53.1 million shares or 39.3% of Perduren.

Kamaluddin, who is former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s son, made a mandatory takeover offer together Datuk Mazlin Junid, at RM1.60 per share last December after they and the parties acting in concert bought a 69.3% stake from TS Law Group Sdn Bhd. Perduren’s share price has been hovering between RM1.90 and RM2.30 since January.

MNC Wireless Bhd’s major shareholder Grand Sino Investment Ltd, Seychelles, sold 30 million shares or a 31.7% stake and ceased to be a substantial shareholder on April 8, according to a filing with Bursa Malaysia. MNC Wireless’ share price had climbed from 24.5 sen in early March to a one-year high of 34 sen in April 8. It closed at 30.5 sen last Thursday.

Kawan Food Bhd chairman Gan Thiam Chai sold 3.53 million shares or a 1.93% stake on April 8. Gan is the largest shareholder with 56.4 million shares or 30.76% equity interest in the frozen food supplier. The company’s share price hit a record high of RM1.93 on April 9.

Over at Asia Poly Holdings Bhd, its controlling stakeholder Tan Sri Lim Tong Yong @ Lim Tong Yam  sold his entire stake. The company’s share price had risen from 25 sen early this month to a high of 50 sen last Wednesday before retreating to 48 sen the following day.

Tomypak Holdings Bhd’s substantial shareholder New Orient Resources Sdn Bhd has bought an additional two million shares, raising its holding to 29.88 million shares or 27.33%.

Notable movements

Khee San’s share price staged a strong rally this month. The stock had risen from a low of 48 sen early this month to 75.5 sen last Thursday — the highest level since April 2009.

The candy maker completed the fourth tranche of its private share placement last month. A total of 2.9 million new shares were listed on the stock exchange. The placement, which went to identified investors, has raised RM6.9 million for the company.

Lim Pei Tiam @ Liam Ahat Kiat, who bought 4.55 million Khee San shares or a 5.15% stake has emerged as a new substantial shareholder.

Over at TA Global Bhd, executive chairman Datuk Tiah Thee Kian, better known as Tony Tiah, has been accumulating its shares. Between April 9 and 14, he bought 1.02 million shares on the market, raising his stake to 11.96%. TA Enterprise Bhd, which is 30.34%-controlled by Tiah, is the biggest shareholder of TA Global with a 60.17% stake.

The property company’s share price had fallen from its peak of 44 sen in August last year to a low of 28.5 sen in December last year. The stock regained some lost ground to close at 32.5 sen last Thursday.
