KULIM (Aug 28): Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd (Inokom), a subsidiary of Sime Darby Bhd, plans to invest RM40 million to upgrade its plant’s capacity and capability here, in order to raise its total production from 28,000 vehicle units per year to 34,000 by July next year.

Inokom managing director Mohd Rizal Jailan said the capital investment includes the upgrading of its paintshop capabilities here, by the next financial year ending June 30, 2015.

Under the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) agreement, Inokom is also looking to embark on potential collaborations, said Rizal, adding that the scheme was opening doors to work with other countries.

Speaking at a press conference after witnessing the roll-out of the second batch of Hyundai Elantra Nu1.8L model to Thailand, Rizal said currently Inokom was keen on increasing the Hyundai model’s export to Thailand.

He said Inokom, which does assembly for eight foreign brands including Mazda CX5 and Hyundai that are exported, aims to become the premier vehicle assembly plant for the domestic and export markets in ASEAN.
