KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 25): Veteran DAP lawmaker Lim Kit Siang has called for a full debate on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue in Parliament, after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the state-owned fund had helped save money for the country.

Najib, in his “My Economic Vision for Malaysia” statement yesterday, said funds from 1MDB were used to solve issues from the “lop-sided power agreements signed by a former leader”.

Lim, in response to the statement, said: “I find it quite unbelievable that Najib has taken the offensive and instead of the charade pretending that 1MDB scandal does not exist, has gone on the attack by presenting the 1MDB as a ‘national saviour’ for Malaysia.”

Lim said if 1MDB was such a “national saviour”, including saving RM200 billion over the next 20 years over the power agreements as stated by Najib, there was no need for a clampdown on debate and national discourse of the issue.

“Let there be a full debate on the 1MDB in Parliament for a start, instead of the Speaker rejecting questions by MPs on 1MDB and forbidding debate and discussion of the 1MDB scandal in Parliament,” Lim added in a statement today.
