KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 21): IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director and CEO Chong Chye Neo has been appointed an independent, non-executive director of Bursa Malaysia Bhd.

In a statement announcing the addition to its board, Bursa said the appointment took effect today.

Chong, it said, has established her career in the Information Technology (IT) sector for more than 30 years, and has vast experience in multiple markets across the Asia-Pacific region.

A graduate from University Sains Malaysia's School of Computer Science, Chong is described as a strong advocate of people development, "especially in preparing for the future of work as a result of Industrial Revolution 4.0".

On Dec 19, Bursa announced that Datuk Muhammad Umar Swift will take over from outgoing Datuk Tajuddin Atan as the group's CEO upon the latter's retirement on Feb 11 next year. Tajuddin, 59, is retiring early though his tenure was supposed to end in March next year.

Muhammad Umar is currently the managing director and CEO of MAA Group Bhd. It is a post he has held since September 2006.

Bursa Malaysia closed 4 sen or 0.59% higher to RM6.77, with 310,000 shares traded, giving it a market capitalisation of RM5.47 billion.
