HONG KONG (Aug 10): Hong Kong's economy grew 3.5% in the second quarter from a year earlier, the government said on Friday, bolstered by strong consumer spending, but the outlook is clouded by an escalating trade war between Washington and Beijing.
Some economists had forecast growth of 4.2%.
The growth rate compares with a revised annual expansion of 4.6% in the first three months of the year.
In April-June, the economy contracted 0.2% from the previous quarter, on a seasonally adjusted basis. The quarterly pace was slower than the first quarter's revised 2.1%.
