KLUANG (May 7): UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein hopes Barisan Nasional (BN) will win the 14th general election (GE14) on Wednesday with the support of voters from diverse racial backgrounds.

The Defence Minister and Special Functions Minister said he was concerned if the victory was not based on the support of various races, especially the Chinese.

"I have already stated before, I’m not afraid to lose. In politics, there is defeat and victory. I’m actually afraid to win...win without the support of all races.

“I hope in GE14, if we (BN) can get a big mandate, including the support and votes from the Chinese community,” he told reporters after attending the “Tok Batin Besar Pulang Bertandang” programme in Kampung Orang Asli Punjut in Kahang, near here today.

Also present were BN candidate  R.Vidyananthan, who is defending the Kahang state seat, and Kampung Orang Asli Kahang 2 UMNO branch chief Sari Achu.

Hishammuddin, who will defend the Sembrong parliamentary seat, said from his observation, the Chinese had reverted their support to the BN.

He and the BN government had done their best for all the people, including voters in the Sembrong parliamentary seats, comprising the Kahang and Paloh state seats.

“If the Chinese voters make a stand not to be with us, (BN), I’m very sad. Moreover in Paloh and Kahang, we have tried our best to ensure their needs are being paid attention to and being fulfilled.

To voters throughout the country, the Sembrong UMNO Division chief hoped  they would not be swayed by slanders raised by certain quarters during the campaign and to use their rights to vote wisely.

Describing himself as the 'Tok Batin Besar' and Vidvananthan as the 'Tok Batin Kecil', Hishammudin said he would also ensure the community development agenda of the Orang Asli in  Sembrong such as education  and water supply would continue to be defended.
