KUALA LUMPUR: Former acting UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has confirmed that he met with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya yesterday.

NST onlilne reported that Hishammuddin, via his special officer Yaqin Khan, said: "I met the Prime Minister to hear his plans on the future of the race and Malaysia.. that's all."

Speculation that Hishammuddin had met Mahathir was sparked off by a Facebook post by veteran newsman Datuk A Kadir Jasin that read: "Assalamualaikum Datuk Seri Hishammuddin. Nak tanya, semalam pergi Putrajaya jumpa siapa?"

(Greetings Datuk Seri Hishammuddin. I would like to ask, who did you meet in Putrajaya yesterday?)

In the same message to NST online, Hishammuddin mentioned the resignation of Former Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed from Umno after more than 40 years in the party.

"I have high respect for Dato Pa... Will be meeting in the nearest time," Hishammuddin said.

"To me, I don't have a reason to leave Umno, but I feel the leadership needs to show a clear direction to all Umno members."
