KOTA KINABALU (April 23): The High Court here today struck out an originating summons filed by a local-based opposition coalition to compel Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to table a report to the Election Commission (EC) on the creation of 13 new state seats in Sabah.

The decision was made by  Judge Azhahari Kamal Ramli in chambers, lawyer Yong Yit Jee, representing the coalition, told reporters after the proceeding.

Yong said the judge struck out the suit on grounds that it had no locus standi and was academic since Parliament had been dissolved.

The local-based opposition coalition, represented by seven members, including Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Yong Teck Lee, filed the suit last April 2.

They named Najib and the EC as defendants.

The coalition was also represented by lawyers Benazir Japirul Bandaran and Ken Yong.
