KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 3): HeveaBoard Bhd announced this evening the demise of its independent and non-executive chairman Tan Sri Chan Choong Tack @ Chan Choong Tak at the age of 85.

In the filing to Bursa Malaysia today, HeveaBoard said the board of directors will announce the appointment of the new chairman in due course.

According to its Annual Report for 2017, HeveaBoard had appointed Chan as its Independent Non-Executive Director on Oct 1, 2004 and on Feb 12, 2010, he was re-designated as HeveaBoard’s Independent Non-Executive Chairman.

Chan had served as a teacher, a headmaster, the Secretary General of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, a senator as well as the President of the Senate in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, he has also served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Tenaga Nasional Bhd as well as a director of a few of its subsidiaries.

Shares of HeveaBoard closed unchanged at 83 sen for a market capitalisation of RM464.09 million. Over the past year, the stock has fallen as much as 45.25% from RM1.52.
