KUALA LUMPUR (July 20): Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the Finance Ministry is of the view that big-ticket items should be subjected to the sales and services tax (SST).

Lim said this in a statement today in response to the Royal Malaysia Customs Department's proposal to exempt several big-ticket items from the SST. The items include airplane, luxury ship, passenger ferry, helicopter and spaceship.

The Royal Malaysia Customs Department is also known as Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia (JKDM).

Lim said: "Although the list, which was released by JKDM is just a proposal, the Finance Ministry is of the view that expensive and luxury items (big-ticket items) should be subjected to the SST."
