KUALA LUMPUR (June 20): GHL Systems Bhd, via its wholly-owned unit GHL (Thailand) Co Ltd, has secured a contract to supply Krung Thai Bank PCL (KTB) with up to 38,000 electronic data capture (EDC) terminals.

In a statement today, GHL said these EDC terminals are expected to be deployed throughout KTB's vast network of merchants to enable the acceptance of electronic payments in the form of credit and debit cards (including Thai QR Payment) as well as government related payment services.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

GHL said the terminals will be deployed in stages over the coming months and a total of 10,000 EDC terminals have been successfully delivered to KTB as at today.

"We are extremely proud to be selected by Krung Thai Bank to supply, deploy and maintain this significant number of new terminals to further enhance the country's rapid move towards a cashless society," said GHL Thailand's country head Khun Napaporn Wilaikit.

"Upon the successful deployment of this order, the total EDC terminals under GHL Thailand's umbrella will be close to 50,000 terminals throughout Thailand," he added.

"We are very excited to have won this significant contract to supply 38,000 EDC terminals and we hope this will be the first of many," said GHL Group chief executive officer Danny Leong.

"GHL continues to seek to provide both our banking industry customers as well as our growing merchant base with innovative and integrated solutions in the fast evolving e-payment space in Thailand," Leong added.
