KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 3): Fomer Bank Negara Malaysia executive Chong Kwai Ying has joined the board of Genting Malaysia Bhd as an independent and non-executive director.

In a stock exchange filing, Genting Malaysia said Chong, 58, had worked for 35 years in the central bank. She served in various positions and was a deputy director in the Banking Supervision Department prior to her retirement in April 2017.

She was responsible for the supervision of domestic banking groups and locally incorporated foreign banks.

Chong, an economics graduate from Universiti Malaya, had a short stint at Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Dalam Malaysia (PIDM) as a consultant until early this year.

Chong currently sits on the boards of AXA Affin Life Insurance Bhd and China Construction Bank (Malaysia) Bhd as an independent and non-executive director.

Genting Malaysia recently reported a net loss of RM 1.49 billion for the third quarter ended Sept 30 2018 compared to a net profit of RM 193.77 million a year earlier.
