KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 16): Genting Hong Kong’s subsidiary Crystal marked an important milestone as it cut the first piece of steel for Crystal Endeavor at WERFTEN Shipyard in Straslund, Germany.

Crystal Endeavor will be the line’s first-ever expedition yacht and the world’s largest Polar Class ship with its completion in 2020, featuring Crystal’s service and hospitality.

The yacht has a PC6 Polar Class designation, allowing the ship to cruise Polar Regions.

“Today is a special day in the development of Crystal Endeavor, which will introduce the next level of exploration for the Crystal brand,” said Crystal president and CEO, Tom Wolber, in a statement.

“We are pleased to collaborate again with the experts at MV WERFTEN, as we work toward a vision for Crystal Endeavor that truly embodies the spirit of discovery of Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises,” Wolber added.

Genting Hong Kong chairman and CEO, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, also looked forward to completion of the expedition yacht.

“A highlight is our investment of over EUR20 million in new equipment so that the Stralsund shipyard will be able to continue to build cruise ships efficiently in the future,” Lim said.
